Dine on a Dime: Paseo

What’s better than a juicy, flavor-exploding pork sandwich? Nothing.

If you’re a seasoned Seattleite, Paseo may be old news. If not, stop reading and go there right now. This popular sandwich stop has two locations in Fremont and Ballard near Golden Gardens.  Paseo is almost guaranteed to have a line, but it’s well worth the wait. Make sure you stop by an ATM before coming by – this place is cash only. Aside from incredible Cuban sandwiches, the roadside restaurant also offers entrees and a long list of side dishes.

Paseo’s three best sandwiches under $10

The most popular and insanely flavorful Caribbean Roast ($8.50) is hard to beat. Pork shoulder is coated in Paseo’s Marinade – kind of a garlic aioli – and slow roasted until it melts in your mouth. The lightly toasted baguette is stuffed with big, caramelized onions, lettuce and pickled jalapenos. Hands down, one of the top three best sandwiches I’ve ever had.

The Paseo Press ($8.95) is another popular choice. It’s made up of succulent morsels of roasted pork on top of sweet banana peppers, then topped with thinly sliced ham, Swiss cheese and caramelized onions, and melted between a hot press.

If you’re not a pork person, try the Ham & Cheese ($7.50). Thin slices of smoked ham are piled atop banana peppers, smothered with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese and then melted between a hot press.

Come sit at Paseo – or call ahead and take it to go – and let your jaw drop after each mouth-watering, messy bite.
