Meatless Mondays: Georgetown Liquor Company

Hogthrob's Breakfast Sandwich

Georgetown Liquor Company in South Seattle is calling all ADD children and their cultured ‘rents.

Let your inner little boy out to play, your sophisticated grown-ass to eat and your hidden drunk uncle out to drank. Now, what to wear?!

It’s called Georgetown Liquor Company which is a swanky way of saying “bar” but you won’t find “bar” food here. Bar schmar. Even if you don’t partake in the Sunday morning libation, you should come to GLC for its brunch. (But bring your ID cuz they’ll still card ya.) GLC has hangover food for the classy folk who had too much wine from last night’s dinner party, not a frat bash.

When you take a seat, you’ll notice some similarities with its sister establishment, Café Venus. The same fun energy is splattered over the GLC space, with a range of entertainment options and quirky menu names. Channel your inner child with a grown drink in hand while you choose between NBA Jams, Super Mario Bros and classic darts. I would recommend eating first then turning to the games or else your food would get cold. You won’t want to tear yourself away. Just warning you…

Let’s not let our food get cold.

Hogthrob’s Breakfast Sandwich

I don’t know about you, but I can never say no to a breakfast sangwich. Not just because it’s vegan am I considering Hogthrob’s Breakfast Sandwich (7.27) an elevated version of a McD’s Egg McMuffin, but it’s a fork and knife sandwich with each layer combined to create a true sense of breakfast. You can choose the protein (I ordered the always satisfying and indulgent maple sausage) which makes it fun and personal in case you’re in the mood for something different.

Sides of peppery herb roasted potatoes and fresh fruit make it a true balanced meal and offer a great complement of flavors. The pos were perfectly cooked and left a good spicy aftertaste and the fruit?! They ain’t skimpin’ here…there’s even kiwi! My dining partner ditched me and left with Hogsthrob after the meal. I don’t blame her; he’s a tasty dish.

Big-Ass Brunch-a-Rito
Big-Ass Brunch-a-Rito

GLC’s Big Ass Brunch-A-Rito (7.73) is a grown up version of a run-of-the-mill breakfast burrito that fuels any grown up appetite. There are red roasted potatoes, roasted red peppers, Gimme Lean chipotle sausage crumbles, Vegan Gourmet cheese and juicy “eggs” wrapped up in a red tortilla. Lots of great textures in each bite. This pretty presentation was zestier than the actual flavors. Wah-waaaaah. There just wasn’t the kick that I was hoping for. I mean, come on, the tortilla was fiery red. False advertisting!

Vegan Eggs Benedict
Vegan Eggs Benedict

There are few dishes that I dream of meeting, but I can say that I was eager for weeks to visit GLC for its Vegan Eggs Benedict (9.09). Eggs benedict?! Vegan?! Whhaaaa?! I am a big believer in fate so it was inevitable we would cross paths. Elegant in its mess, the presentation is far from typical bar food. I was curious about their claim of “vegan sunny side up tofu eggs”, Happy ‘ham’ and hollandaise sauce. After reading this on their site, sounds were coming out of my mouth that weren’t creating actual words. Make sure when your first meeting comes to fruition, you get a bite with every component. (That includes the wonderfully textured ham and egg patties that look like fraternal twins on your plate) The house-made hollandaise wasn’t overwhelming and was as creamy and flavorful as the real thing. Hints of mustard come through in its aftertaste, but not overwhelmingly so. Swipe each forkful through the sauce that pools on the surface so you can taste the true nature of the beast. The refined vegan beast.

GLC Dranks!

I shall name this cup of gravy “Diamonds in the Sky” and price it at 9.17. Perfect Sunday morning laziness swank.
