In our age of Smart phones and iPads, many have mistakenly labeled the desktop timepiece as a thing of the past. Sure, we have plenty of devices to tell us how slowly or quickly the day is passing, but the collection of clocks available at South Lake Union’s Velocity Designs is proof that these items are good for fashion as well as function.

Umbria U+ Collection – Suspend Floating Mantel Clock
Covered with a dome-shaped glass case, designer Alan Wisniewski has created a desk clock that ‘magically’ floats in space. Hovering with ease in its shield, checking the time has never been more fascinating. The base and face are made of hardy walnut, giving it a simple yet mythical touch. Best of all, this model is only 8½ by 4¾ inches – so you won’t need to clear away too much space!

Roost shows off their eye for innovation with these intricately crafted designs. Perfect for springtime, the Floral Desk Clock is made from delicate silver-plated steel, which has been photo-etched into ornate flowers. Each clock features brass-plated details with a tiny bee resting on the second hand. You can pick and choose from two different flowers – the Mum or Pansy – to match your floral preferences.

Vitra – George Nelson Ceramic Desk Clock
Made entirely of glazed ceramic, Vitra brings back the original designs of George Nelson – one of the founders of American Modernism. Though these models originated as prototypes from the Vitra Design Museum in the early 1950s, they have not been produced until now. Handmade from lacquered sheet metal, these porcelain beauties feature high-grade quartz movement and a rechargeable battery.
