Learn visual storytelling secrets from the pros.
What: This month, the Northwest Video Workshop aims to teach journalists the importance of great visual storytelling. This workshop covers all the basics, and featured speakers will discuss their experiences in the field.

Some of the speakers include KOMO-TV reporter/anchor Eric Johnson, who will discuss the small touches videographers can add to improve their stories. KING-TV investigative photojournalist Steve Douglas and the KING 5 Investigative Team will demonstrate how to incorporate emotion into certain investigative stories, in order to generate viewer interest. The workshop’s website provides a full list of featured speakers and faculty, as well as a detailed itinerary.
Who: The event is sponsored by KING-TV, KOMO-TV, KIRO-TV, Q13 Fox News, Yakima Herald-Republic, National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and NATAS Northwest. Anyone interested in learning how to tell a more visually appealing story will benefit from this workshop.
Where: The Workshop will be held at KOMO-TV (140 4th Ave. N.) on Friday night, and at KING-TV (333 Dexter Ave. N.) both Saturday and Sunday nights.
When: The Workshop takes place Friday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 29. Drinks and appetizers will be provided Friday night. Breakfast and lunch will be provided Saturday, but participants are on their own for dinner Saturday night. Coffee and doughnuts will be available Sunday morning.
How much: The registration fee is $15 for students, $25 for NPPA members, and $35 for all others.
Why: As the news constantly changes in order to adapt to new technology, journalists must keep up with evolving demands. These days, great storytelling often includes being able to tell visual stories, and this is true for content on both the Internet and TV. At the workshop, renowned photojournalists, multimedia journalists, editors and reporters will help students hone their visual storytelling skills and prepare them for a new era of reporting.
