OL Reign held a triumphant conquest over Angel City FC last weekend, dominating the match with a 4-1 win to break their two-game losing streak. OL Reign started on an aggressive front foot, hungry to dominate the match and secure their home win against Los Angeles. From the moment the Reign players stalked onto the field, the intense focus and determination on their faces was evident to everyone at Lumen Field. This match was especially exciting because Seattle walked away with a resounding clap-back, and also because they also further solidified themselves among other National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) greats.
OL Reign finished the match with 24 total shots on Angel City’s goalkeeper; recorded as the most shots in a single game since the 2016 season. OL Reign extended its undefeated record to seven games against Angel City, having still never lost to the second-year club across all competitions. Forward Elyse Bennett scored the team’s first goal in the 34th minute, which marks her first goal under Seattle stadium lights. Forward Veronica Latsko recorded her first ever brace (the scoring of two goals at any point in a match); the goals were 2 minutes and 16 seconds apart, ranking her as the second-fastest player to record a brace for Seattle’s OL Reign since Nahomi Kawasumi in 2014 (2:13). Canadian midfielder Quinn recorded their first-ever NWSL goal within five minutes of entering the match, closing out the game at 4-1, and for the first time in her career, forward Megan Rapinoe recorded three assists in a single match. Rapinoe is the fourth player in league history to record a three-assist game, and holds a record of 25 assists all-time, which is the most in club history and the fifth most in league history. Saturday’s crowd roared in approval at every one of these milestones, and it was the type of record-breaking Seattle noise that you can expect this coming weekend.
