Just a two hour drive from Seattle, Alderbrook Resort & Spa is the ideal weekend destination for relaxation and rejuvenation any time of year. Set on the serene shores of Puget Sound’s Hood Canal and framed by views of the Olympic National Park, Alderbrook is a quintessential representation of the beauty and tranquility of the Pacific Northwest. What began in 1913 as a simple gathering of tents on the beach has grown into an 88-acre, year-round destination and tradition.
The spirit of Alderbrook is casual luxury in a relaxed natural setting. It’s the sort of place where an art class and a couples massage are followed by a plate of freshly shucked Washington State oysters and a Columbia Valley Syrah by the stone fireplace. Of course, a round of golf at Alderbrook Golf Club, paddling a kayak on Hood Canal, or a hike deep into the Quinault rainforest are all possibilities, too. Even better, Alderbrook is pet friendly!
From the moment you step into the Alderbrook lobby, you will feel the warmth and coziness of this indulgent resort. Tall ceilings and large brick fireplaces surround plush furniture that are perfect for lounging with a glass of wine and a good book. The property is incredibly spacious, with 77 rooms and 16 cottages, two bars, a restaurant, spa, saltwater pool, hot tub, and fitness center all located onsite. The resort offers stunning views of Hood Canal, in addition to luxurious amenities like oversized bathrobes and slippers, aromatic bath accessories, and Keurig coffee and tea selections. Many of the rooms come equipped with a deep soaking tub and a private balcony. The cottages offer even more of a spacious stay, including a kitchenette and personal patio.

Echoing the beauty of our region, The Spa at Alderbrook Resort surrounds you with the tranquility of nature, the aromas of cedar and evergreen, and the gentle sound of water cascading over rocks. It is the ideal place to bring body, mind, and soul into balance. The Spa at Alderbrook offers an array of treatments including massages, body wraps, facials, and more. The Signature Massage integrates deep tissue techniques with basalt stones and aromatherapy. Extend your relaxation even longer by taking a dip in the saltwater pool or the hottub after your spa treatment. Both offer beautiful views of the Hood Canal, and are open year-round.
We spent a good deal of our time at The Restaurant at Alderbrook, which offers seasonal, Northwest fare through throughtfully-sourced partners and local ingredients. The Restaurant is open for brunch and dinner daily, and we highly recommend trying both. Brunch favorites include the Smoked King Salmon Eggs Benedict, the Mascarpone Stuffed French Toast, and the Hood Canal Hash with crispy fried Pacific oysters, bacon, and parmigiano and garlic potatoes. Lunch classics are also available during brunch, such as the Alderbrook Fish & Chips, the Raikes Beef Co. Burger, and the Corned Beef Reuben.
Dinner at The Restaurant at Alderbrook is a must-try, as there are so many delectable options to choose from. The oysters alone are served five different ways: local oysters on the half shell, baked oysters, oysters “Alderfeller,” oyster shooters, and fried oysters. Starters include the famous Grand Marnier Black Tiger Prawns, Salish Sea Manila Clams, Roasted Mushrooms, and more. There are also five different salads to choose from, the beet with burrata and pistachio being one of our favorites. For mains, there really is something for everyone. The Roasted Delicata Squash and the Forager’s Pasta are both great for vegetarians, while seafood lovers have to try the Dungeness Crab Cakes, Crab Rosa, or King Salmon. Meat eaters have their pick between Roast Chicken, Duck Breast, Duroc Pork Cjop, Filet Mignon, or Ribeye, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them. While all of the mains come with varying sides, there are additional sides available as well, and we definitely recommend the Truffle Mac be one that you order.

Ordering dessert at The Restaurant at Alderbrook is an absolute must, with so many amazing options to choose from. There is the Huckleberry Layer Cake, Vanilla Bean Crème Brûleé, and the S’mores Chocolate Torte, as well as as a seasonal fruit crisp, decadent chocolate truffles, and rotating ice cream selections from Olympic Mountain. The beverage program at Alderbrook is fantastic, offering seasonal craft cocktails, barrel aged cocktails, spirit free beverages, and an extensive wine and beer list.
In addition to The Restaurant, Alderbrook has two onsite bars, the first being The Drinkery which is located in the lobby. Make yourself at home and grab a drink when you arrive, whether you need a caffeine boost, a glass of vino, or a seasonal craft cocktail to settle in. The Drinkery has all-day grab-and-go food options like bakery items and sandwiches. There is also the lounge bar that is connected to The Restaurant, where you can order cocktails, beer, wine, and Alderbrook Favorites such as the Alderbrook Razor Clam Chowder and the Steak Frites from 2pm to close.
No matter what your reason is for a getaway, Alderbrook has got you covered. It’s great for families, a romantic couples getaway, a fun trip with friends, and is also perfectly suited for a rejuvenating retreat, a destination wedding, or a corporate event. Experiences change with the seasons and range from hiking the resort’s five miles of private trails, paddling and boating on the canal, combing a beach full of oysters, locally inspired spa experiences, a creative culinary team offering a range of adventures, and more.
