Weekend Happenings August 15-18

It’s been a nice cool week and this weekend will be more of the same (possibly even some rain!). Here are some events around the city that might be interesting to check out.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15

Sunset Market at Kirkland Urban (Kirkland)

The first of a series of monthly pop-up events starts today, Thursday, August 15 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. If you can’t make it, future markets are scheduled for September 19, October 24, November 21, and December 19. Whether you’re on the hunt for handmade treasures, delicious eats, or simply a unique family outing, this event is a fun and free activity for your Thursday evening.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 16

Refuge Outdoor Festival (Carnation)

RefugeFest is a 3-day outdoor recreation and camping experience gears towards people of color. Held at Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation, about 30 minutes driving from Seattle, it’s a wonderful community experience for folks interested in the outdoors. The festival runs from Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18, there is exceptional programming, including fire making, bird watching, biking, silent disco, wilderness survival, and more.

It’s not too late to sign up to camp or to visit for the day. Single day passes are $65.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17

CID Block Party (Chinatown International District)

CID Block Party is this Saturday, August 17 in Chinatown International District. It runs from 3:00 – 9:00 pm. A daylong celebration of Asian American music, arts, and culture. This will be the fifth year of this lively, fun outdoor event. There will be live DJ sets, food, arts, crafts, and more! It’s free, open to all ages.

Head to Chinatown for a day dedicated to Asian and Pacific Islander culture, featuring two stages of live music from local and national AANHPI artists, tasty food trucks, a beer garden, car show, and more. Located on King Street under I-5, the fest seeks to turn the paved landscape into a cultural oasis. Many vendors will pop up at the block party, but the event provides the perfect opportunity to support neighborhood businesses as well. CHOMP! at Marymoor Park (Redmond)

CHOMP! celebrates all that is fresh, delicious, local and sustainable in King County. Taking place at the picturesque Willowmoor Farm at King County’s Marymoor Park, the event supports King County Executive Dow Constantine’s Local Food Initiative by highlighting local farms and farmers, chefs and restaurants using locally-sourced food, and local organizations specializing in healthy and affordable foods, farmer and farmland support, sustainability, and social justice.

There will be a live music, a farmers market, family friendly activities including meeting farm animals, zucchini races, and local food vendors.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 18

BrasilFest (Seattle Center)

This Sunday, BrasilFest will be at the Armory Food & Event Hall, Mural Amphitheatre, and Fisher Rooftop from 12:00 – 7:00 pm. The festival is part of the Seattle Center Festál series, a year-round series of 24 free cultural festivals, produced in partnership with community organizations.

There will be capoeira, food, music, dance, and more!
