Calling all dog owners who love to travel! We have discovered our new favorite pet-friendly hotel, The Hotel Zags in Portland, Oregon. As if Portland wasn’t already a fantastic weekend destination for Seattleites, this just makes us even more eager to make the short three-hour drive, because we can bring our furry friends along.

Hotel Zags is a 174-room boutique hotel that is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Portland. Every room and suite at Hotel Zags has been newly revamped with vibrant colors, modern furnishings, and picture windows that offer beautiful city views. Hotel Zags offers so many thoughtful amenities, from pillow-top beds, ample work space, earth-friendly bath products, pet friendly rooms, gym passes, and daily complimentary continental breakfast. Just steps from Portland’s Farmers Market, Hotel Zags is a modern, urban retreat that is perfect for active and adventurous travelers and their canine companions.

Four-legged guests are welcomed by name by The Hotel Zags’ pet-loving staff, who list the day’s incoming animal guests on a dog-shaped chalkboard at check-in. In addition, each pet receives a complimentary goodie bag full of organic treats from Portland’s LexiDog Boutique as well as a Hotel Zags plush dog bed and water bowl. Hotel Zags has designated a full floor of pet-friendly rooms and suites, offering guests and their pets a worry-free and welcoming environment while also preserving the experience of human-only parties.

Hotel Zags has a beautiful urban green space, an outdoor courtyard and patio centered around a Living Wall, a 64-foot-long vertical garden, and Portland’s first living art installation. On clear days, the hotel’s restaurant provides outdoor table service and allows on-leash pups, so the whole family can enjoy a taste of luxury.

And it wouldn’t be a proper weekend in Portland without some delicious eats! Here are the spots we are currently loving:

Quaintrelle

Quaintrelle is truly a PNW gem. They specialize in farm-to-table cuisine with a strong focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Quaintrelle is known for its vibrant, innovative dishes that celebrate the Pacific Northwest’s bounty. Chef Elijah Rivers crafts a frequently changing tasting menu that highlights fresh vegetables, sustainably sourced seafood, and local meats, often with creative, unexpected flavor combinations. One thing that does remain consistent on the menu is the delicious house focaccia—don’t miss it!

Quaintrelle also offers a curated selection of natural wines and craft cocktails, complementing the food perfectly. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, making it ideal for special occasions or a relaxed evening out. With a commitment to sustainability and local partnerships, dining at Quaintrelle provides not just a meal, but a thoughtful and flavorful culinary journey.

Street Disco

Street Disco is a lively, natural wine bar and restaurant that is rooted in bold, seasonal flavors with a focus on local ingredients. Street Disco offers a diverse menu that changes frequently. We love the seared octopus when it makes its appearance on the menu, and the burger is a staple. Dishes are meant to be shared tapas style, so order a couple for the table. The atmosphere is intimate, stylish, and a little funky, with gorgeous green velvet couches lining one side of the restaurant. This atmosphere is enhanced by a thoughtful selection of natural wines and craft cocktails, making it a must-visit spot for your next night out.

Tanaka

Tanaka is serving up Japanese comfort food in the form of katsu sandos (Japanese-style sandwiches), loaded fries, burgers, and more. Located in the heart of Portland, Tanaka is known for their house-made shokupan (Japanese milk bread), which serves as the base for their signature sandwiches.

In addition to sandos, Tanaka offers a selection of pastries and sweets, such as miso croissants and various cakes, blending Japanese flavors with Western-style baking. Tanaka provides a casual yet refined dining experience, ideal for lunch or a light dinner. They’re also pet friendly, which is a win in our book!

Happy traveling!
