2024 Holiday Gift Guide

Each year, we create a gift guide featuring a mix of new finds and longtime favorites. We prioritize supporting local businesses, with a special focus on women-owned brands. This guide is a work in progress and will be updated with new additions in the weeks ahead.

Kuma Coffee

Peter Mark Ingalls launched Kuma Coffee in 2008 and now operates a roastery in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood with a small, but dedicated team of four. They directly sources their beans from farmers and operate primarily online and through subscriptions. Coffee enthusiasts seek out Kuma Coffee because it’s a very specific type of coffee—lighter, allowing the flavors of the terroir to speak for themselves. It’s not your typical big and bold coffee but rather highlights the true essence of the bean.

We’re a bit of a coffee snob household (as much as I hate to admit it because, how annoying) and prefer to support local, small-batch roasters. Recently, we received a bag of their beans, which we loved and would happily purchase again. They currently have a new and festive Bear Claus Holiday Blend that tastes spice cake, hot cocoa, and ribbon candy.

And Arlen

And Arlen began as an Etsy shop in 2013 and opened its brick and mortar location in West Seattle in 2020. Founded by Miranda Harris Hamlin, the shop offers a stunning collection of rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and engagement pieces. With a range of price points to suit various budgets, their designs are characterized by a simple, delicate, and sophisticated aesthetic.

I also really admire her business model, where Miranda pays her employees $36/hour, provides 401(k) contributions, medical and dental insurance, and paid time off. This approach is rare in the retail industry and sets a positive example that more businesses could aspire to follow.
