Setting the Style Bar with Molly Sims.
Molly Sims is using 2011 to take the jewelry world by storm. Known as a sultry model with numerous appearances in Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition and an actress with a handful of movies and TV appearances, Sims decided to combine her passion for jewelry with her fashion and styling experience and launched the Grayce by Molly Sims jewelry line early last year. She says, “When I first started modeling and acting, I kind of got known for wearing vintage pieces on the red carpet, at shoots and in everyday life, so it just seemed like the right thing to do.I love it, and it’s a passion I have had for the past 10 years.”
As a young girl, Sims grew up playing in her mother’s jewelry box. With pieces from her mother’s travels and estate sales from the past 30 years, Sims developed a strong appreciation for vintage jewelry and the freedom of fashion. It wasn’t long until Sims became a trendsetter in her own right and created a collection of necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets and more for fashionistas everywhere to show off their style.
“My design style infuses my love of mixing vintage pieces with a classic aesthetic that allows me to create timeless pieces that can be worn from season to season,” she explains. The collection is a sophisticated mix of vintage and modern designs that can be worn alone or layered together. Sims says, “I feel that jewelry can change a look just as much as clothing can. I build looks around jewelry instead of clothing dictating the look.”
True to Sims’ personality and style, the Grayce jewelry line is infused with retro touches, understated glamour and fearless femininity with a vintage twist. The collection is also a real labor of love to the actress/model/designer. “I’m involved with every aspect and decision for this collection,” she says. “On top of the designing, I work with the public relations team, the social networking team, the website design team – you name it, I’m involved. It’s a ton of work but in the end, it’s extremely rewarding.”
Just as she was raised, she believes every woman should have a bit of “Grayce” and is sharing that with women everywhere through her jewelry. The pieces are influenced by a number of inspirations and experiences, from the effortless styles of icons like Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot to the art deco design of the 1920s and the sexy sophistication of the 1960s. It offers a mix of delicate layering chains, antique drop earrings and decadent pavé statement necklaces.
With the Spring 2011 line becoming available on the website in February, buyers can expect a lot more of the long, gorgeous chain drop earrings and the use of long layering box chains. Whether keeping it casual with skinny jeans, T-shirt and boyfriend jacket or going glam with the perfect gown, the pieces of Grayce by Molly Sims have something for every occasion.
