2011 MUST SHOP: Ligne Roset Takes on S. Lake Union

It’s a new year. So perhaps it’s time for a new look? If you haven’t started thinking about an interior update now’s the time — especially now that the 150-year-old French home-fashion house Ligne Roset has opened in downtown’s South Lake Union.

But this shop isn’t stocked with your ordinary boring big-box sort of goods. The 5,200-square-foot retail space features a vast selection of nothing-else-like-it favorites from this high-end contemporary design house, such as Togo and Smala. But they’re also highlighting new models for the New Year —  such as Ruché and Confluences, which are bound to become classics themselves.

At the moment, Ruché is a personal favorite among Seattleite staffers. The name refers to a sewing technique in which fabric is gathered or pleated (you’ve probably heard it before in reference to fashion). And the look is anything but ordinary — a solid wood structure topped with a curvy, quilted surface. It’s the perfect functional art piece.

The Ruché sofa is a refreshing introduction in a world of ordinary seating. We’re loving the Antigone coffee table (shown in beech) too.

With more than 200 stores worldwide, it’s about time a Ligne Roset branch opened up in our modern-design-loving city. And it’s no surprise that the location is owned by a Seattleite herself, Barbara Prince, who has more than a decade of experience with the Ligne Roset brand (and other high-end contemporary furniture lines).

Known in the design world for its artful collaborations with both established and up-and-coming designers, Ligne Roset’s past and present designers include the award-winning Didier Gomez, Pascal Mourgue, Peter Maly, Pierre Paulin, Inga Sempé and the Bouroullec brothers, among others.

One location bursting with that much talent? You’re bound to find enough goods to give your space the revamp that it needs for 2011.
