We’ve all been there. Some more often than others. But we all have our favorite remedies. Seattleite staffers share their go-to spots for the pounding-headache, flip-flopping-stomach cures.
Annie Brady | Photographer: Roxy’s in Fremont by far. Not only do they have the best chicken fried steak and service in the city but double mimosas for $4, need I say more?
Jon Meyer | Contributor: From having to take alcohol safety classes, I know that grease and fat instead of bread (carbohydrates) are actually better at curing a hangover, which always leads me to CJ’s chicken fried steak. Sausage gravy and a serious knife to do my dirty work are all I need.
Lisa Plancich | Contributor: Beth’s of course on Aurora by Greenlake. This place has a long-standing tradition of greasy, high carb and caloric items that will cure the shakes and calm the stomach all at once.
Kelly Skahan | Contributor: Mae’s Phinney Ridge Cafe. If you’re up for venturing out after a night of debauchery, Mae’s Breakfast of Champions is a must-eat. The lethal combo of hangover-friendly eggs, crispy hash browns and a creamy milkshake are as perfect as it gets this side of a Manhattan brunch.
John Ferensen | Contributor: Toulouse Petit. Weekday hangovers happen too (either planned or unplanned), and there’s no better cure than breakfast happy hour from 9-11 a.m. at Toulouse. The meals are full portioned and most are a measly $5; order a mimosa with fresh squeezed orange juice to wash it all down.
Erin Thomas | Contributor: I also love Toulouse Petite. The “Veneto” cocktail – gin, prosecco and egg (plus lemon and honey). Booze, booze and protein — the ultimate hair of the dog. Plus the breakfasts range from fresh to greasy, depending on how your body takes a hangover. I’m a pro…
Norelle Done | Contributor: The Five Spot. The 5 Spot has great scrambles and breakfast dishes to get you through a hangover, including a fabulous egg sandwich that is fittingly called the “Hair of the Dog-Wich.” Their bloody mary is a menu staple, and they serve breakfast until early afternoon on the weekends.
Jane Yuan | Publisher: Portage Bay Cafe. If you’re not too hungover to wait in the line, Portage Bay Cafe will surely hit the spot. The fresh berry “toppings bar” is to-die-for. Order the Organic Pancakes or French Toast and finish it off with an unlimited trip to the toppings bar, and you’re hangover will be cured.
