Interiors and exteriors, from top to bottom, find a home at this Belltown location.

Nestled in the heart of Belltown, Peter Miller brings an eclectic and intelligent element to its busy, pedestrian-filled location. Specializing in architectural texts and literature for the last 34 years, this hidden gem of a bookstore still has the same allure to structural design enthusiasts as it did the very day it opened.

Owner Peter Miller finds a thrill in selling each volume that he carefully hand-picks for his namesake business. The store is lined with bookshelves, filled with elegant architecture tomes from around the world. Miller, a bit of a bibliophile himself, found architecture to be the logical theme for his bookstore.

“Architecture is always wanting to get to the best part,” he said. “The books are so well made that they are difficult not to appreciate.”

From landscapes to hotels around the world, the Peter Miller bookstore has something for every architecture fan. Store visitors will find several volumes dedicated to local architects such as Peter Bohlin, Steve Holl and Tom Kundig, as well as internationally renowned masters like Peter Zumthor and Herzog & de Meuron. In addition to the reading materials, the store also sells a variety of hand-crafted culinary items from exotic places.

For newcomers hoping to learn more about the subject, Miller recommends 101 Things I Learned in Architecture School, 200 Hotels and Wabi Inspirations. He notes, however, that most readers in the United States are relatively “green” when it comes to this field of study.

“In America there is a mystery behind the designers of buildings,” he said. “We aren’t aware of the architects’ names whose buildings we walk by everyday. It doesn’t seem as obvious to Americans, but to the rest of the world it is as common as the building address. In other parts of the world it is odd to appreciate a building and not know anything about it.”

This unique bookstore allows you to travel around the world in one afternoon, while still remaining in the heart of Belltown. The Peter Miller bookstore is open to the public Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
