Happenin’ Happy Hour: The Saint

Nothing makes you cheer “Salud!” like cheap tacos and a library of tequila.

For the first time in my five years in Seattle, I reside at an address located on Capitol Hill — you know, that place where people dress a little differently, take themselves a bit too seriously and taste everything a tad too much. Friends are calling me a hypocrite, a phony, a poser — probably for the years I’ve spent blasting this part of town. What can I say after all my shrugs? They’re right.

All this reproach is forcing me to self-medicate in my own way — which, for me, involves the consumption of exemplary food and drink. The Saint, a Mexican-themed tequila bar located in the heart of the Hill, has come to my rescue with its fantastic HH menu. Eating crow has never tasted so good.

Must-Have Grub: $5.50 is the magic dollar amount at The Saint. It gets you a pair of Mole Tacos – miniature chicken tacos with delicately soft shells, drenched in a sweet mole sauce. For the same price, you can also try the house Ceviche, a Peruvian delicacy that infuses pleasant flavors with limed fish and pico-de-gallo — but the homemade masa rounds that serve as the foundation are the real highlight.

Must-Have Libations: For (you guessed it) $5.50, you can try one of The Saint’s signature cocktails. These include Hermano, their house margarita offering; La Playa, a “beach”-worthy cooler that blends Cruzan rum with orange and lime flavors; and Mañana, which combines Sauza tequila with elderflower, blue Curacao and homemade sour mix.

Or, you can have yourself a glass of tequila, since The Saint has more than 80 different labels on its shelves. Prices vary, obviously — but this extensive collection gives you the chance to truly sample a new spirit for the first time.

Happy Times: 5 to 7 p.m. daily.
