Entertaining The Masses: Bumbershoot, Part 2

It’s Labor Day Weekend — so laugh a little, courtesy of the festival’s comedy lineup.

Bumbershoot is mostly known for the musical performances, but the festival is much more than that. Another major staple of the Bumbershoot experience is the comedy — and with the amount of comedians scheduled to perform this year, it’s almost worth the ticket price just for the comedy. Here are my picks for comedians that you can’t miss.

Doug Loves Movies Podcast

Who: Uber-popular comedian and actor Doug Benson — plus some special guests.

When: Saturday, 7:45 – 8:45 p.m.; Sunday, 6 – 7 p.m.; Sunday, 7:45 – 8:45 p.m.

Where: Bagley Wright Theatre

In this show, Benson (“Super High Me,” “The Benson Interruption”) invites some comedian guests to discuss his favorite subject: movies. Benson, known for his interests in a certain illicit herbal remedy, is always entertaining, and with the addition of special guests, you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. Check out the podcast here.

Eugene Mirman

[tentblogger-youtube 6L37rwcg8EY]

When: Saturday, 6:15 – 7:15 p.m.; Sunday, 8 – 9 p.m.; Monday, 1 – 2 p.m.

Where: Intiman Theatre

Eugene Mirman is one of my favorite comedians around. His irreverent comedic style is so different from anyone else performing today — and you will not be able to stop laughing. He is recognizable for his creatively-named roles as Eugene the landlord in HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords,” Evgeny the Stand-Up Comedian/Hitman in Adult Swim’s “Delocated,” and the voice of Gene in FOX’s animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers.”

Comedy Bang! Bang! Podcast

Who: Host (and well-known comedian) Scott Aukerman will be joined by guest and fellow funnyman Paul F. Thompkins.

When: All three evenings, 6 — 7 p.m.

Where: Bagley Wright Theatre

Another podcast? Why not! This is the live version of the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast that is hosted by Aukerman. Along with special guest-host Tompkins, this podcast is part stand-up, part variety show, part improv — and there may even be some music sprinkled in, as well.

Full of audience participation, this show will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. Check out the podcast here.

Bumbershoot runs September 3-5 at Seattle Center in Seattle, WA. Single-day tickets are $35, while 3-day passes are $90. Tickets can be purchased online.

And remember, it’s Bumbershoot, not Bumpershoot. A thousand points to the first person who can say what a Bumbershoot actually is! (Disclaimer: points are worthless.)
