A festive celebration of Seattle’s most eclectic community.
What do you get when you take the vibrant, quirky art scene of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, throw in some local color and top it off with wine and cupcakes? The answer, of course, is Blitz Capitol Hill, the most inspired art walk you’re likely to find in the city.

This self-guided tour of the coffee shops, bars, boutiques, galleries and music venues located throughout the Pike/Pine St. corridor will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10. The official walk is scheduled between 5 and 8 p.m., but many venues will remain open later to accommodate the night owls.
Blitz was born in August 2006, when a handful of local business owners first opened their doors to showcase the neighborhood’s most talented artists. Three years later, the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce began to produce the event. Today, more than 50 local venues open their doors to art-walkers. The event is also made possible by the slew of devoted volunteers who participate each month (interested volunteers can e-mail Blitz organizers for more information).

The November Blitz will feature many exhibitions to admire — and cozy venues in which to enjoy them:
- Custom sofa designer and supplier Retrofit Home features the prints and acrylic work of Kathleen McCarty, an artist who studied her craft at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Florence, Italy. Champagne and snacks will be served from 5 to 10 p.m.
- Lab5 Fitness Studios offers a sneak peek at some live classes — as well as a wonderful collection of paintings in acrylic by Matt Jones and Cody Bromberg.
- Ltd. Gallery, one of Capitol Hill’s newest residents, hosts POP! The Art of Pop Culture — an introspective look at contemporary American media by 25 local artists.
- Gamma Ray Games presents a collection of original work by “Marvel Comics” illustrator Brian Thies, including work from “Dark Tower” and “Dark Avengers.”
- Vermillion (known for fantastic happy hour drink specials) will showcase “The Evolution of a Northwest Artist,” with work by Byron Randall, Joe Reno and Ree Brown.
- Poco Wine Room keeps it simple: a glass of wine and some fine art to enjoy within a cozy setting. A perfect final stop for the evening.
- A full site listing (with a walking map) is available online.
If you can’t make it this week, no worries — the festivities take place on the second Thursday of each month. Just don’t forget your walking shoes.
