Happenin’ Happy Hour: Targy’s Tavern

Because we need friendly dives like this one, and they need us.

On top of Queen Anne, there’s a little place named Targy’s Tavern that I’ve been drawn to for the past few years. More often than not, I guiltily find myself bypassing community hotspots like Paragon and Potrage and traveling a bit further west to Targy’s grey, nondescript facade.

The U-shaped bar, easy-going bartenders and inviting pool tables always make me feel welcome. Better yet, Targy’s offers a happy hour that does exactly what it’s supposed to do – put me in better spirits.

Must-Have Grub: None really, aside from pepperoni pizza (served by the slice or pie), Hungry Man frozen entrees and vending machines. Not really a place for food. Moving on!

Must-Have Libations: This is a barman’s bar, so the options are simple. Domestic beer ($2) and microbrews ($3) are available — please note PBR is $1.50 a can. With such cheap prices, the best thing to do is just double up and buy a drink (or two) for one of the regulars and further endear yourself to the cause. After all, one day, that will be you.

Happy Times: From 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
