Chef Sam Choy, the proclaimed God Father of Poke, has made his fame traveling the world educating people on this wonderful dish. Thanks to the influence of Chef Choy, there are many variations of this dish today. He has inspired many chefs to create their own take on this Hawaiian classic. Hosted by Chef Sam Choy and partner Max Heigh, The Seattle Poke Contest shines light on many of these great chefs in a fun competition.
Each participant will be evaluated on presentation, flavor, quality, & uniqueness of their dish. The judges will be a mixed group of chefs, writers, and celebrity surprises. Participants include: Chef Steven Ariel- Trace, Chef Billy BeachJaponessa, Chef Jeriel Calamayan- Poké Wai, Chef Maylin Chavez- Olympia Oyster Bar, Chef Dave Dekker- The Stone House Cafe, Chef Heong Soon Park- Chan Seattle, Chef John Howie- John Howie Steak, Chef Geo Quibuyen- Food & Sh*t, Chef Jason Velasquez- Stone lounge, City Fish Co., and more contestants will be added weekly until the event!
The winner of this competition holds the crown for 2016’s Best Poke in Seattle! Proceeds for this event will go towards The Bennett Foundation, founded by Seattle Seahawk’s defensive end Michael Bennett, who will also be in attendance. Michael’s foundation seeks to fight obesity through community education, activity and nutrition.
