Urban Axe Throwing at Blade & Timber

So apparently axe throwing is a thing now. I’d characterize it as a slightly more physically demanding version of bowling and darts. Bowling in that it’s more of an interactive social activity than a competitive one and darts because you’re throwing at a round target on the wall. Blade & Timber opened in March and is the second axe throwing location in Seattle (Axe Kickers in White Center was the first).

Located on Broadway, the space is larger than it seems from the sidewalk with 18 lanes and plenty of space for your group to hang out. We reserved a private lane the afternoon of our visit because the website showed that all the lanes had at least a few spots booked. Upon arrival, it was only about 15% full, with 10 lanes wide open during our entire 90-minute slot. Basically, it’s a better deal to share a lane if you have less than six people in your group and you might get lucky and get the lane to yourselves. Overall, it was a fun experience that involves a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it, it’s satisfying as hell. We all agreed we’d come back again.

Make sure to wear close-toed shoes. This is a requirement. Flannel is optional.

Once you check-in and head over to your lane, one of the staff members or “certified coaches” will demonstrate proper safety and axe throwing techniques during everyone’s first few throws. Then they’ll leave you to practice and play.

There’s a small selection of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks you can purchase, but I’d suggest either bringing your own or going out to eat before or after. No alcohol is permitted (for obvious reasons—like the fact that you’re throwing a sharp axe).

Private Lane Booking: (price per lane, up to six people)
$120 for 1.5 hours

Reserve an entire lane in advance online for you and up to five of your friends.

Share A Lane: (price per person; share a lane with others)
$20 per person for 1.5 hours

Pay per person rather than per lane. You could be joined with other groups, but it could also end up being a private lane depending on how busy it it.
