This must-eat far east import has landed in the Eastside. Din Tai Fun is the legendary dumpling house where foodies from all over the world have seeked out to satisfy their cravings for authentic Chinese dumplings.
With locations throughout Asia, including Taiwan, Japan, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, and Australia, as well as one U.S. location in Los Angeles, Lincoln Square in Bellevue is their first U.S. franchise — you lucky Eastsiders now have it conveniently in your backyard.
There are so many tasty items to try, you will definitely need to make a few visits to sample all their famous dishes, and make sure to bring friends so you can order more. But an absolute must-eat is their Juicy Pork Dumplings (aka Xiao Long Bao), a unique soup dumpling that’s bursting with flavor.
According to the company’s Principal, Taiwanese-born David Wasielewski, Din Tai Fung’s success is based on the quality of these little pockets of flavor.
“This unique Asian delicacy is hand-made from a time-honored method by the family since the opening of their first store in Taipei over 50 years ago,” he says. “Chinese food is prevalent in the Puget Sound, but our soup dumplings will bring to the region a new way to experience authentic Chinese cuisine, offered in an array of fun, flavor-bursting, bite-sized pockets.”
As you patiently wait for your seat (since there are no reservations), you can look through the exposed glass-encased dumpling kitchen and see their highly trained chefs crank out 5,000 dumplings each day from scratch as you sip on your cocktails from their full bar.
