WHAT: Mac & Cheese
CRAVE FACTOR: Spring starts in less than two weeks — supposedly. But we know that Mother Nature clings to the cold for a bit longer in Seattle. So if it’s comfort food you crave when the weather gets you down, look no further than Pies and Pints in the Roosevelt neighborhood.
It’s hard to imagine something more comforting than meat-and-vegetable-filled pastries accompanied by a pint of some great brew. But Pies and Pints one-ups its already comforting menu with the perfect cure for winter doldrums: Mac & Cheese.
The classic comfort food has become somewhat trendy lately, with variations like lobster or crab macaroni and cheese. But when it comes to a classic food, let’s stick with what works. Fortunately for us, Pies and Pints gets it just right.
The plate comes piled with mounds of melt-in-your-mouth macaroni, sizzling with cheese (and lots of it). The restaurant stays true to its name as a beer establishment by baking the macaroni in a Welsh beer cheese sauce.
It’s then topped with breadcrumbs, creating the perfect crispy shell to inner gooey bliss. Now, you can attempt finishing the Mac & Cheese by yourself, but the portion is plenty for two. I suggest grabbing someone to cuddle into a cushy booth with and share. What’s more warming than that?
FAST FACT: Pies and Pints now hosts live music twice a week. Wednesday and Sunday nights from 8pm to 11pm, your meal comes with a side of bluegrass, folk, country, or blues.
