CRAVE FACTOR:Dessert fans unite. Come one, come all to B&O Espresso in Capitol Hill. B&O is the sort of establishment one would feel comfortable ordering a slice of rich chocolate cake heaven for breakfast — and not feel the least bit of guilt in doing so.
Walk in the door and you are greeted by a case of enormous cakes, bread pudding, apple crisp and cheesecakes made fresh daily. Classic diner cake stands are filled with red velvet and chocolate cupcakes. Plates of shortbread, chocolate chip cookies and coffee cake align the counter at eye level.
Recognizing one could easily end in a deadlock between a slice of coconut cream cake and an eclair, I asked Ryan, a barista at B&O, what his favorite dessert is. He smiled politely and responded “I’ll give you my top three: German chocolate cake, chocolate raspberry torte, and it’s a tie for third place. Either tiramisu or carrot cake.”
So there you have it. And no matter what time of day you choose to indulge, you’ll walk out the door with your dessert fantasy fulfilled — until you and the glass case meet again.
