Globetrotters rejoice! Noted world traveler, author and cuisine expert Rick Steves has entered the iPhone universe with an exciting new app.
Rick Steves’ Audio Europe is a compilation of Steves’ library of audio files — which figures to more than 100 hours of self-guided tours and interviews. The material has been organized into a geographic-specific playlist that spans the entire European continent. The best part about this exciting app: It’s completely free.
“Rick Steves’ Audio Europe is designed to be used at home or on the road,” says Ashley Sytsma, public relations for Rick Steves. “Travelers always encounter downtime (riding on trains, for example), so, unlike most travel apps on the market, it works offline. Once a user downloads their selection of files, they are saved on the device and a connection is not needed to listen. This will save travelers the cost of pricey European data charges and the hassle of finding a good WiFi connection.”
That’s not the only benefit to travelers. Steves’ — who has been the leading voice in European travel for the last 30 years — has filled the app with helpful tips for navigating some of the most famous locales in the world, without the frustration of struggling to communicate in a foreign land.
“The app will save travelers hundreds of dollars in guided tour expenses,” Sytsma says. “And its public radio content will make sightseeing both more fun and meaningful.”
The interviews also provide highly interesting listening material. Famous voices featured on the app include noted author Salman Rushdie, memoirist Frances Mayes and Princess Märtha Louise of Norway.
