Wine O’clock Wednesday: Rollergirls, a Wedding Registry and Wine World, Oh My!

Wine World Warehouse offers much more than the largest selection of Northwest wines on the planet.

Sure, Wine World Warehouse offers a massive variety of wines from the Northwest, along with hundreds of wines from around the world. Yes, there is easy access from I-5 and free parking. And there definitely is space for lavish events for 200 people in the Warehouse’s ballroom and for more intimate parties such as “Ten Countries (of Wine) for Ten Couples.”

Or if parties aren’t your style, you can join the Explorers Wine Club, where tastings take place in the stunning Wine Gallery, which showcases local art and cigars, in addition to high-end wine from $100-$800. (I longingly eyed a $200 bottle of 2005 Chateau Lynch Bages, which I visited during a trip to Bordeaux a few years ago.)

But in the warehouse itself, most bottles of well-made wines under $20 sell the best, according to owner David LeClaire, a certified sommelier and producer of many local wine events (ranging from “Sexy Syrah at Salty’s” to “Debuts and Discoveries” at the Seattle Aquarium).

LeClaire’s creative approach to events is evident at Wine World Warehouse too. On Friday (April 29) at 6 p.m., you can meet up to 30 Rat City Rollergirls on skates at a free tasting of 2007 My Derby Wife Merlot, created by WineGirls Wines.

And here’s something unique for a wine store – brides and grooms can sign up for a Wedding Registry, so friends and family can purchase wine glasses (from eight lines of glassware!), decanters, wine-related picnic baskets, wine and other gifts.

Also unusual, Wine World offers daily complimentary tastings– sometimes wineries are there to pour their releases, other times the friendly staff pull together mystery tastings of their favorite wines from around the world.

So get your wine on and check it out. Cheers!
