Nothing says summer quite like a relaxing stroll through a lush, green garden. Well…maybe rocking out to some live music at an outdoor venue. Or perhaps spending some time with friends in a beer garden.

However you define the epitome of summertime activity, chances are you’ll find it at the 11th Annual Ballard Art in the Garden Festival. Sponsored by the P-Patch Trust, a community gardening program with more than 70 locations throughout Seattle, the festival will be held at a one-acre plot located less than a mile from downtown Ballard.

Twenty-four local painters, sculptors, photographers and artisans will showcase their work at the festival this year. The eclectic guest list includes Julia Garrels of Metal Wing Studios, Larry Snyder of Fotoitaliana: Images of Italy, Suz O’Dell of Tribal Zone Fine Custom Jewelry and William Freeborn of Rain City Pens.

In addition, live music can be enjoyed throughout the day. Local acts scheduled to perform include Pickled Okra, Lost River String Band and Hejira.

Want to bring the kids? There will be plenty of activities for the little ones, such as face-painting, sign-making and other arts and crafts. No kids? Well, head on over to the beer garden. Adults can enjoy a sausage courtesy of CasCioppo Brothers, and then wash it down with a cold pint from Maritime Pacific Brewing Co. Of course, the bake sale — featuring a fine collection of homemade pies — can be enjoyed by festival goers of all ages.

Best of all, admission to — and parking for — this event is completely free to the public! Ballard Art in the Garden will take place between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Ballard P-Patch.
