Happenin’ Happy Hour: Peso’s Kitchen & Lounge

Queen Anne’s hotspot for mouth-watering Mexican cuisine — for breakfast.

I’ve found that there aren’t many breakfasts worth the trip to another borough. The Seattle food scene is fantastic, in that each locale around the city has satisfying offerings when it comes to the morning’s basics of dairy and proteins. However (and you knew that was coming), there is one place that stands alone (and has a happy hour no less) when it comes to the morning meal, – Peso’s.

Must-Have Grub: Located in the steep shadow of Queen Anne Avenue, Peso’s happy hour breakfast menu is available every weekday morning, and features all but a few favorites for $6.50.

The instant argument is, “What about Toulouse down the street?” I hear what you’re saying, but what I’m eating is Peso’s unholy chicken fried steak served with spicy jalapeño corn gravy, and topped by two creamy egg yolks.

Also worth mentioning are the Huevos Tacos, complete with andouille sausage, pico de gallo, lime crema, cilantro, and ancho taco sauce. The veggie sides alone are worthwhile when munching off the complimentary chips and salsa.

Must-Have Libations: To wash it all down is a non-judgmental drink menu with two Bloody Mary options. The classic ($7.50) will surely suffice while the “El Diablo” ($8) will keep the slow burn going inside your mouth with house-infused, seven-pepper vodka.

Happy Times: Monday — Friday, between 9 and 11 a.m.
