Third time’s the charm for the annual Lamb feast.
Seattle’s most avid chefs of will thrown down their gauntlets on Sunday, Oct. 23 to compete in the third annual Lamb Jam Seattle, produced by the American Lamb Board at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center.
Hosted by the charismatic Chef in the Hat, Tierry Rautureau of Rover’s and Luc, the event will be adjudicated by a panel of the sharpest tongues in Seattle’s culinary industry. Judges will critique the chefs’ preparations of lamb shoulder, shank, loin and leg, accompanied by wine from 30 Washington wineries. These foodies will award prizes for Best in Show and First Place Awards for shoulder, leg, shank and loin courses.
Guests also get their vote for their favorite lamb preparation in the People’s Choice Award, a designation held by Chef Bobby Moore of the Barking Frog for the past two years. This year, participating chefs represent several prominent local restaurants, including Cantinetta, Ethan Stowell Restaurants, The Hunt Club at Sorrento Hotel and Pomegranate Bistro.
Reigning champion from last year’s competition, Chef Mark Bodinet of Copperleaf Restaurant at the Cedarbrook Lodge, will fight for his local title and use his bragging rights to his favor. Bodinet took home the highest honor of Best in Show for his grilled lamb shoulder confit with creamy parsnips and preserved huckleberries, and took the dish to compete at the Lamb Jam Masters against the winners of the Boston, Washington D.C. and San Francisco contests. This year’s Seattle victor will do the same.
For treats that go beyond the gastronomic portion of the event, guests of Lamb Jam Seattle will enjoy live music from local band FOUR, beverages from Pike Place Brewery, coffee from Starbucks and bites from The Cheese Cellar and Cookie Box.
Lamb Jam Seattle is put on by the American Lamb Board, an industry-funded research and promotions commodity board that represents all sectors of the American lamb industry. They are focused on increasing demand by promoting the freshness, flavor, nutritional benefits and culinary versatility of American lamb.
