A watering hole with tasty grub, frosty mugs and one really good-looking dummy.
Nestled between a dry cleaner and a tanning salon on Olive Way, Capitol Hill’s Bleu Bistro’s Grotto happily rewards any customer who resists the smells wafting from Dick’s Drive-In. BBG’s expansive dining area features nifty booths with curtains that provide a private, truly mysterious dining experience, even during the day. That’s as far as the mystery goes, though, because this place has a menu worth shouting about – even if I keep mistaking the mannequin in the window for a real looker.
Must-Have Grub: During the 444 Happy Hour, every item on BBG’s menu is available for $4. Indulge the gourmet grilled cheese fetish that’s been nagging you and dive into the Fromage Fondant — a fire-broiled concoction of Monterey jack and blue cheese, slathered with garlic butter and served with wasabi dipping sauce. The Charcuterie (cured meats platter) is consistent with the eatery’s pseudo-French style — just watch out for the meat sweats! As a bonus, all sandwiches are priced at $8.75 during midday Happy Hour.
Must-Have Libations: BBG has a lovely tap run and a fridge full of frosty mugs. Two of my personal favorites are the Naughty Nellie Golden Artisan Ale from Pike Brewing Co., which manages to be both creamy and sharp, and the Old Rasputin Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing Co., which allows me to drown my palette in a beer darker than December in Seattle. Like the appetizers, all beers and well drinks are priced at $4 during the 444 Happy Hour.
Additionally, all well drinks are priced at $3.75 during midday and late night Happy Hour times. If you’re an Oly drinker, then stop by during midday HH for $2 pints of the perennial Northwest favorite.
Happy Times: The aptly-named 444 Happy Hour is available Sunday through Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. The midday HH menu is available from 12 to 4 p.m., while the late night HH menu is available from 11 p.m. to closing time.
