Chocolate Box Makes Sweet, Sweet Love

Discover the city’s other lovable bean on a mouth-watering tour.

Perched at the edge of Pike Place Market, Chocolate Box boasts selections from the best chocolatiers in the Northwest. The shop sells sweets, as well as a variety of Northwest wines and cheeses, at a sinfully affordable price.

Every Friday and Saturday, Chocolate Box offers an additional treat for sugar fiends: a three-hour tour of the city’s finest confections. The itinerary for the Chocolate Box Experience is as follows:

  • The adventure begins at the shop at 9 a.m. sharp. Once sightseers are fully loaded with hot cocoa from Chocolat Vitale, an expert guide explains how and where cacao is grown and demonstrates the proper way to eat chocolate.
  • After a scenic jaunt to Fremont, guests are led on a factory and tasting tour at Theo Chocolates — the country’s only bean-to-bar, organic and fair trade chocolate producer.
  • The tour then returns to Chocolate Box, where guests are able to make their own confections by dipping various foods in melted chocolate.
  • The art of genache is detailed in a video hosted by Julian Rose, head chocolatier at Portland’s Moonstruck Chocolates. From his private kitchen, Rose demonstrates the subtle art of making the perfect truffle. The video also features a virtual tour of the exclusive Moonstruck factory, and is followed by samples.
  • The tour concludes with a thank-you bag of edible samples from Chocolate Box store, as well as a generous shopping coupon.

The Wine Bar at Chocolate Box currently offers a combo ticket that includes the Urban Wine Tour — a pairing excursion that visits several local wineries — in addition to the Chocolate Box Experience. This offer ($95/per adult 21+) is available online.
