The Trifecta: Three Spas for Seattleites Who Need an Escape

You don’t need to go far to escape the stress of the city — these day spas will satisfy.

It’s a rough job, trekking all over Western Washington to visit different spas, getting pampered and preened, so that I can tell you about the best ways to escape the city and relax. You don’t feel sorry for me? Well, it was worth a shot. In no particular order, here’s a trifecta of three spas for instant de-stressing.

Trifecta One: The Spa at Alderbrook Resort

The relaxation begins even before arriving at Alderbrook Resort and Spa. By car or ferry, the two-hour journey to the banks of the Hood Canal takes you past some scenic sights. And the destination is just as picturesque. Take in views of the Olympics while relaxing by the resort’s saltwater pool or soaking in the hot tub. Book a massage, facial, or body treatment like the “Hood Canal Starry Night.” This wrap of local marine algae, sea brine and aloe had me feeling like a cocooned caterpillar waiting to turn into a butterfly. But it worked—I emerged feeling beautiful with glowing, moisturized skin.

Trifecta Two: The Spa at Salish Lodge

Perched above Snoqualmie Falls, Salish Lodge boasts unbeatable views. You might begin to unwind as soon as you step out of your car and feel the waterfall spray hit your face. Step inside the stylish spa with its modern zen décor and the relaxation continues. You’ll want to arrive early to enjoy time soaking in a therapeutic pool or basking in the warmth of the cedar sauna and eucalyptus steam room. In addition to massages and facials, the spa offers “Straight From the Hive” treatments using honey from the lodge’s own beehives. Does it get any sweeter than that?

Trifecta Three: T-Spa at Tulalip Resort Casino

Even if you’re not a gambler, you might have a reason to visit Tulalip Resort Casino. The resort’s T-Spa offers 14,000 square feet of tranquility with uniquely Native American flavor. The décor represents the Tulalip as a water tribe, complete with meandering walkways that flow like a river to treatment rooms lit with soothing watercolors. A couples’ massage in the VIP room (complete with a fireplace and shower built for two) might even be enough to forget the money you both lost in the casino.
