Happenin’ Happy Hour: The Capital Grille

If the wait for Season Six of Madmen is more than you can bear, look no further than The Capital Grille’s Happy Hour to help tide you over. With stiff drinks, and a disciplined yet sophisticated menu, The Capital Grille has just enough starch in its proverbial collar to encourage you to disappear into its plush leather lounges and enjoy a three martini afternoon of a bygone era.

Must Have Eats: For those seeking the classic experience, begin with the Miniature Tenderloin Sandwiches (2 for $6), comprised of 2 oz filets, herbed boursin cheese, and sautéed wild mushrooms on a brioche bun. If you’re looking for more surf than turf, the Pan Fried Calamari with Hot Cherry Peppers ($6) provides a nice twist on the expected with a bit of bite and the perfect amount of crunch as well.  Vegetarians be warned, this is not the most friendly menu for you, but the Parmesan Truffle Fries ($6) certainly do help.

Must Have Drinks: “The 601” is an unapologetic martini, made with your choice of Ketel One Vodka or Martin Millers Gin, served with a splash of Grana Padano, and finished with white-anchovy stuffed  Sicilian Olives. The “Stoli Doli” is The Capital Grille’s signature martini, and while the mention of vodka infused with pineapple might be off putting to some, it is highly worth it to give this surprisingly food friendly libation a try as well. At 3 ounce pours and $6 for all cocktails across the board, these are not to be trifled with.

Happy Times: Weekdays from 3p – 6p in the bar and lounge.

The Inside Scoop: While not on the Happy Hour menu the Flourless Chocolate Torte is a sinfully delicious (and gluten free) end to any evening, and particularly nice when paired with a glass of the Happy Hour Red, currently a Cab/Merlot blend from Washington’s Goose Ridge winery ($6).
