Von Trapp’s is the Bavarian brain child of Deming Maclise and James Weimann, the guys responsible for Bastille and Poquitos. Apparently they recognized that it is impossible to go wrong with a place that provides bier, brats, and bocce in abundance.
Although they opened in February, the happy hour menu was just unleashed to the public this month. Inspired by Chef Pete Fjosne’s take on German pub fare, Von Trapp’s happy hour definitely offers something for everyone without breaking the bank.
Must Have Eats: All of Von Trapp’s sausages are made in house and they easily go through 400 pounds of meat per day, so it would be a shame to hit happy hour without trying some of these special treats. The Cheddarwurst, which can be enjoyed by ordering the Oktoberfest Sampler, tastes like it was made by God! Studded with Beecher’s cheese, this pork sausage melts in your mouth. Nuremberg in a Blanket, three Nuremberg sausages wrapped in brioche with a side of curry ketchup, is also a must try menu item. The Doner Kebab, a happy hour exclusive lamb and beef sandwich on homemade bread, is full of flavor and a steal at $5.
Must Have Drinks: Anyone looking for a good German beer can end their search here. Even if you are a beer novice, knowledgeable bar staff will provide expert recommendations to suit your palate. All of their refreshing cocktails, like the Danube Delta Buck and the Fire & Knife Cup, are brilliantly crafted and feature at least a splash of beer.
Happy Times: Monday through Friday 4pm-6pm and Weekends 12pm-4pm
