LODGES ON VASHON

A stone’s throw from West Seattle, slide into island time at the alluring Lodges on Vashon, where guests enjoy festive gifts including a bottle of bubbles, sparklers and noise makers. Next door, Bramble House is hosting a lovely NYE dinner option.
MAGNOLIA HOTEL, VICTORIA, BC

A quick ride on the Clipper (or a flight from Kenmore Air) lands you in downtown Victoria, a highly walkable town where the holiday spirit twinkles with Canadian charm (not to mention great value, thanks to the current exchange rate). Book a romantic night at the luxe-meets-cozy Magnolia Hotel & Spa (recently named the #1 city hotel in Canada in Travel+Leisure’s Reader Survey), and perhaps relish culinary celebrations around town at welcoming spots like Nourish and Fishhook at Mermaid Wharf. For a fancier affair, buy tickets to the Fairmont Empress New Year’s Dinner & Gala.
SEATTLE HAPPENINGS
If you’re sticking around Seattle, kick off festivities on Saturday the 30th with an early fete hosted by Josh Henderson and Jon Staenberg at The Velvet Underground Dining Experience (or The VUDE, find party details here).
Then, on actual New Year’s Eve, consider options from live music (like Bowie Vision at The Triple Door and Artist Home’s Extravaganza at Neptune Theatre) to a swanky speakeasy Black and White Ball at Smith Tower. Trivia takes place at Shelter Lounge Greenlake from 7 to 9 p.m., with DJ Sidlicious taking over afterward. (The night includes a complimentary champagne toast at midnight; reservations recommended.)

On the Eastside, Bellevue’s new Civility & Unrest invites guests to “celebrate your last night of debauchery in 2017 with featured cocktails and Ketel One, Belvedere and Johnnie Walker” (make reservations here). In Kirkland, The Woodmark Hotel offers a getaway just 15 minutes from Seattle that means champagne upon arrival, complimentary late-night snacks and 18% off the venue’s best available rate.
Or, for the ultimate culinary and staycation experience, enter a Facebook contest to win a night to remember at downtown’s swanky Four Seasons Hotel Seattle. Eligible entrants have the chance to win two tickets to the Moët & Chandon New Year’s Eve 2017 Bash at Goldfinch Tavern and an overnight night stay in a “Seattle View” guest room on December 31 (plus breakfast for two the next morning).
The contest—now live—will end on Friday, December 29, at 10 a.m. PST. Fans and followers of the hotel’s Facebook page can enter for a chance to win by liking the post about the contest and commenting with a GIF that describes how they would feel if they won.
FLOAT INTO THE NEW YEAR
Regardless of how you end the year, it seems like a good time to start planning new adventures for 2018. One high-flying idea? A ride with Seattle Ballooning, which lifts out of Snohomish and Bonney Lake, both 40 minutes from Seattle.
Here’s to soaring into the New Year with gratitude for what has been and hope for what is soon to come.
