Local entrepreneur Kate MacDonald, former president and co-founder of Julep Beauty opened up the boutique fitness studio concept Pilates ProWorks in South Lake Union last month.
Pilates ProWorks (PPW) is a contemporary twist on traditional Pilates that focuses on the core and uses your whole body. Think of it as “power” pilates (like power yoga versus traditional yoga). It is a dynamic workout with quick transitions to keep the intensity high with fun fast-paced music.
PPW offers about 10 classes a day at various times ranging from 5:30 am – 7:30 pm. Classes are 40 minutes, but they may offer longer classes on the weekends in the future. Stay tuned! The studio is gorgeous with large windows for optimal brightness and high ceilings in a historic building.
They are also dog-friendly! This is the first workout studio I’ve heard that allows dog owners to bring in their dogs (of course your dog should be reasonably well-behaved and friendly). It’s a unique and thoughtful policy for Amazonians who can bring their dogs to work or if you live in the area and want to walk to the studio with your dog.
Kate is energetic and passionate about fitness and wellness. She discovered pilates about five years ago after she gave birth to twins. Pilates is low impact and tightens the core. She recommends 4 to 5 classes in order to get a good feel of the workout and not feel so new that you might not know what you’re doing. Kate plans to open another location in the Green Lake neighborhood.
