Capitol Hill’s Self Pour Wine & Beer Bar & Restaurant Rapport

We dined at Rapport about a month ago and it was so good. It had been on my radar since it opened in the second half of 2020, but I just hadn’t made it over yet. Located in Capitol Hill at the bend where Broadway meets 10th, Rapport is a self pour wine and beer bar and restaurant. The food is flavorful, seasonal, and unfussy. A bright and spacious interior with expansive windows along the perimeter and outdoor patio bar tables.

Choose from 1, 3, or 5 oz pours ensuring you can try several or taste a small sample before committing to a whole glass. It’s entertaining to peruse the different categories of drinks (wine, cider, and beer) at your own pace and then making a selection. Because you can start with a smaller pour, it’s more accessible to try several throughout the course of the visit. And when you’re ready for your next pour, you don’t have to wait at the bar or wait for your server, you can get it yourself.

The inviting chef-driven menu by Mike Law is farm-inspired. Previously a cook at Sitka & Spruce, the menu at Rapport features flatbreads, chef’s boards of cheeses and meats, and a selection of plates for dinner. I went in expecting some small bites like a charcuterie board (which we did order, and was great) to pair with drinks, but the quality of the plated dishes was a delightful surprise. The dishes were executed well and highlight seasonal ingredients.

We ate the spicy garlic shrimp, spicy lamb meatballs, spring asparagus with morels, and salami and leeks flatbread. My favourite out of everything we ordered was the spicy garlic shrimp—the sauce was so rich, savory, and buttery. I’d devour a whole bowl of it. The breads, doughs, and pastries are all made in house and the desserts and pastries are excellent. Save room if you can.

They source from local purveyors and farms and while their menu has likely changed since our visit, I’m certain it will be good. The self pour drink experience was unique and amusing, but the food is really what will make me return.
