You rarely need an excuse to enjoy a nice bottle of wine. Other than “I’m thirsty” or “It’s Thursday.” But thanks to the women of O Wines, you now have an extra reason to add to the excuse bank.

Owners Kathy Johanson and Stacy Lill created O Wines (the “O” stands for opportunity) to fund scholarships for low-income, high-potential young women. And 100 percent of net profits from their wine sales are donated to these “Opportunity for Success” scholarships.

Forget the cheesy halftime shows and trivial gridiron rivalries, the real Super Bowl — the one that gets our blood boiling and hearts racing — is next month. And it calls for more of a celebration than pigskin-shaped sliders and triple-cheese chili.

Taste Washington, the Super Bowl of Washington Wine events, features more than 200 Washington state wineries each pouring up to three of their wines, and more than 75 leading Seattle-area restaurants offering mouth-watering bites at Qwest Field Event Center on March 27.

You drive by the Old Rainier Brewery complex on I-5 South all the time, and chances are you even toured the landmark building at some point. You know the “T” replaced the “R” on the roof when Tully’s Coffee moved into the former brewery headquarters. But did you know the brightly painted building is also home to Bartholomew Winery?
