Never before have we felt more urgency to break down walls and build bridges between cultures around the world. The arts offer the perfect vehicle for doing just that. Here in our own city, we’re proud to announce an amazing lineup of inspiring May events.
Seattle’s 45th annual Northwest Folklife Festival, the country’s largest community-powered arts and culture Festival is this weekend! Beginning Friday, Northwest Folklife creates opportunities for all to celebrate, share, and participate in the evolving cultural traditions of the Pacific Northwest. Northwest Folklife Festival is the non-profit’s signature event, featuring over 5,000 performers from over 65 different cultural communities that help to make up the Northwest’s arts-rich landscape.
If you follow Seattle’s thriving music scene, chances are you already know this name. And if you don’t, well, you really should. Though Kenyan-born Naomi Wachira has already made some major waves around the Pacific Northwest (Seattle Weekly coined her the city’s “Best Folk Singer” last year), it seems just a matter of time before this soulful talent is truly discovered.
