Fun in the Sun: 2011 A Taste of Edmonds

Celebrate the 29th annual festival with a diverse offering of food and music.

With plenty of events going on in the Northwest this weekend, it may be difficult to choose which to attend. For all-ages fun and entertainment north of Seattle, you’ll want to be sure you make it up to 2011 A Taste of Edmonds, presented by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.

In its 29th year, A Taste of Edmonds provides a variety of activities for adults and children and delicious food that everyone will enjoy.

More than 35 food booths will be on hand this year to satisfy any appetite. With main meals ranging from piroshky and German bratwurst to blackened salmon and chicken adobo, even the pickiest eater will find something to snack on. You can whet your appetite with lemonade, mango lassi or a natural fruit smoothie, and finish it all off with hot crepes and cold ice cream.

As you sample the tasty fare, you’ll be serenaded by a diverse array of performers on the Frontier Communications Main Stage, which will be headlined this year by The Smithereens. Of course, no festival is complete without a beer garden, and this one also features its own stage with a variety of musicians playing.

Kids will not be bored at A Taste of Edmonds, as there will be entertainment aplenty to keep them busy. As if pony rides, bouncy inflatables and an enormous rock climbing wall weren’t enough, the Kids’ Stage will be showcasing many local favorites this year.

Plenty of arts and crafts vendors will be at the festival this weekend, and will be selling original, hand-crafted jewelry, art, photography, clothing, pottery, glass and leather items.

A Taste of Edmonds will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14. Located at Civic Playfield, admission is $3 for teens and adults, and free for children age 12 and younger. To avoid traffic and parking hassles, you may want to take the shuttle from Edmonds-Woodway High School.
