Oh Ombré — for such a laid back hairstyle, you can be so stressful. Our past efforts to score sun-kissed strands haven’t always been successful.

Wanted: surfer girl-perfect locks, à la Rachel Bilson or Gisele Bündchen. Lightened tips and darker roots that still look natural, like we’ve logged serious time at the shore. Received: basic, boring chunky highlights.

Thankfully, we barely even had to explain ourselves at Bowie Salon and Spa, a Capitol Hill oasis helmed by super-in-the-know beauty vet Stacie Bowie. She knew exactly the look we lusted after — and was truthful about the results. Bowie explained that landing locks as intense as Giuliana Rancic’s would require a few visits — and suggested starting with natural honey-hued highlights for our medium brown hair.

Our super-friendly colorist Karie, who trained under Bowie, got right to work painting thin pieces all over. The result? An Ombré that looked all-natural and seriously sun kissed — exactly the look we wanted. Bonus: Sarah and Bowie gave us the best blow out we’ve ever received — our hair was silky soft, bouncy, and gorgeous for days afterward.

The salon’s decidedly contemporary aesthetic (chandeliers and chic, cozy chairs), warmed by the staff’s friendly personalities, provides the perfect balance between cool and conversational. Sexy, summery strands have never been so easily accessible. We’re sold.
