Fiesta Navideña: An Evening of Flamenco

A festive tribute to one of Spain’s most enduring traditions.

What: For one captivating night, Flamenco Arts Northwest invites Seattleites to enjoy the enchanting sounds and moves of La Peña Flamencaone of the city’s premier dance troupes. The group’s 22 members — each one an advanced dancer — will perform traditional flamenco music and dance numbers, as well as a few contemporary pieces.

 

Who: Flamenco Arts Northwest is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the music and dance of Andalucia, Spain. The group showcases concerts, workshops, lectures and fiestas throughout the year. An integral part of Flamenco Arts Northwest is Carmona Flamenco, an award-winning ensemble founded by husband-and-wife team, Marcos and Rubina Carmona.  

Rubina Carmona is the Creator and Artistic Director of La Peña Flamenca. Originally from San Francisco, she developed a passion for flamenco singing early on and made her first trip to Spain in 1965. She studied with the best of the best, and subsequently returned to Spain a few years later to explore flamenco’s many styles. For nearly 50 years, Carmona developed her skills as an incredible singer, dancer and teacher. With her husband by her side, she performed in many cities across Spain and North America.

Where: Erickson Theater, located at Seattle Central Community College. 

When: The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11.

How Much: Tickets are $15 for students and seniors, and $20 for everyone else.
