The hunt is over — great drinks and grub await you at this taxidermy paradise.
Dark, dank, and filled with animal heads. Your grandfather’s study? Well, maybe (probably), but also Smith on 15th Avenue atop Capitol Hill. To expect a shiny, bright menu would be to contradict the mounted deer on the wall, and therefore — does not exist. The void is simply filled with delectable, instinctual, indulgent eats and complimentary cocktails. Just like the doctor (or taxidermist) ordered.
Must Have Grub: There’s only one item at $5, and the lamb meatballs are well worth it. From there the food price drops to $4 where the squash fritters (with salsa verde), pork turnover (with apple chutney), and fritto misto (lightly fried veggies and meat) exist for culinary delight.
Must Have Libations: Free of frills, the happy hour drink menu follows suit with the rest of the restaurant. For $5, a run of classics (Tom Collins, Old Fashioned, Negroni) are available to uncomplicate the food options along with a champagne cocktail left to the whims of the bartender. And as traditional as hunting game, Smith completes the circle of life with your preferred color of wine by the glass for $4.
Happy Times: Daily from 4 – 6 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
