March Foodie Madness: Best Sandwich, Paseo’s Midnight Cuban Press

Careful, if you get any of this sandwich on your finger, you may eat your finger.

The Spot: Walking by Paseo in Freemont you would never guess the small venue offers the best sandwiches in Seattle. Come by around lunch time and the long line of people waiting for their sandwich fix may start to tip you off. Show up a little late to find that they’ve already sold out of bread and then you really know there’s something really special going on here. You can also try their Ballard location, but a sandwich sellout is sure to happen there as well.

With Cuban and Caribbean influences, Paseo’s food is both exotic and comforting. Insider’s tip: call ahead and reserve your sandwich before you arrive. Also, bring cash because plastic isn’t welcome.

The Dish: The Midnight Cuban Press is like no other sandwich you’ve met. Succulent Cuban roast pork is combined with sheer slices of smoked ham, Swiss cheese, sweet banana peppers, aioli, and the most amazing caramelized onions. The onions are so divine, there’s even a sandwich that just features them.  The Cuban Press is one messy meal, but incredibly worth it.
