Dine in or delivery at this new Capitol Hill gem.
Lucky 8s China House has only been open for a few months, but the food and service is impressive. They offer traditional Americanized Chinese food, including pork bao, chow mein and spring rolls at a low price. The lunch menu allows you to choose three dishes from a menu of nine for only $8 – and the portions are generous. I stopped in on a rainy Friday afternoon and after much deliberation, devoured…
Lucky 8s three best dishes under $10
The braised pork bao (2 for $5.95), which is a steamed bun filled with braised pork. I’d never had pork bao before, but have found a new food obsession. The bun was doughy and the pork was tender, delicious and flavorful.
For something with heat, the dragon fire shrimp ($8.95), which is shrimp tossed in a spicy chili sauce, is a great choice. Dragon is pretty accurate to describe this dish – the sauce ain’t for wimps.
Lastly, I had the sweet spicy beef noodles ($9.95). Thin egg noodles are tossed with beef, garlic, and sweet chili sauce. The heat level was a little less than the shrimp and the sauce was the perfect complement to the meat and noodles. I was happy to have some as leftovers for dinner later.
And get this – they project kung fu movies on the wall! Awesome.
This week, Lucky 8s is launching their bicycle delivery. To kick it off, they’re hosting a children’s bike helmet drive and offering free dinner delivery until April 7th. There’s a $25 minimum order delivery, and they’ll also throw in a complimentary order of vegetarian fried rice. All helmets donated will go to Childhaven.
