Get Shameless with Lissie at the Crocodile
Who: The first time I saw Lissie perform was at Bumbershoot this summer and I was instructed to deck out of Alt-J just a skoch early so as NOT to miss the throaty blonde cover Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness. Lissie did not disappoint, engaging the crowd with that fierce glass gargling voice and I’m sure I’m not the first to say her live set would give Stevie Nicks a run for her money. Elisabeth “Lissie” Maurus never thought she quite fit into any high school circle in Illinois and like many artists before her, dove head first into music to escape the drama of reality. She finished her degree at an alternative school, spent a few years at Colorado State University and a semester in Paris, at which point she came to the conclusion she should pursue a career in music. Lissie has sang at a TED conference, opened for Tom Petty & Bruce Springsteen and her debut album Catching a Tiger gained widespread popularity in the US and UK. Her single “When I’m Alone” would later be named song of the year in 2010 by iTunes UK. She has performed at Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Coachella, SXSW and Lollapalooza among others, and her new album Back to Forever has already seen success since it released in October. Don’t miss her performance paired with the lively Kopecky Family Band at the Crocodile.
