Seattle’s love for the kitty cafe concept shows no signs of slowing down with the announcement of a third cafe opening up this spring in Capitol Hill. Neko Cat Café’s founder and self-proclaimed head cat lady, Caitlin Unsell’s idea is to create “the kind of place where you bring your friends for happy hour and your niece on Saturday morning.”

Like other cat cafes, NEKO will provide a space for people to interact with cats while also helping facilitate their adoptions through a shelter partner (TBA). What separates this particular cafe from others is that it will provide both alcoholic and non­alcoholic beverages as kitty-themed as possible without sacrificing a nice range of flavor profiles.

We asked Unsell how this would be reflected in NEKO’s menu and here’s what she had to say:

“We are still working on the exact list of drinks but will have a handful of local taps and a solid collection of regional wines in addition to espresso based coffee drinks and juices. I have a love affair with Bellingham and their breweries! We will carry Aslan, Chuckanut and Boundary Bay and likely Fremont and Black Raven as well… We really like the Black Raven Kitty Kat Blues that’s infused with cat nip. We are hoping to have a special NEKO brew made for us as well.

We will also have cider, some of our favorites are Seattle Cider, Schilling and Finn River. I’ve worked in breweries and restaurants for years and I understand the need to have a little something for everyone. We want to make sure the pilsner loving people to the porter loving people are all happy, and of course those that prefer the sweeter side of life, we will have cider!”

If you’re worried about getting cat hairs in your drink and food, fear not! Health codes mandate that the area where the 8­-10 kitties reside must be separate from the food and beverage area. A large glass wall will help achieve this, while simultaneously allowing patrons to look in on the furry residents.
