Pike Place Market’s second annual Wednesday Evening Farmers Market will kick off on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 giving downtown shoppers the opportunity to enjoy the long summer evenings while shopping for fresh produce and supporting local farmers. Along with the Evening Market, Pike Place Market will host four weekly farmers markets throughout downtown starting Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

“We are thrilled to bring back our Evening farmers market for locals. Wednesday nights are a great time to swing by the farm stands to pick up great-tasting fresh veggies for the grill or summer salads. We look forward to welcoming our neighbors back to the Market and inviting them to enjoy the new MarketFront plaza as well,” said Ben Franz-Knight, Executive Director of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA).

The Wednesday Evening Market, on Pike Place, will host more than a dozen local farmers, making it easy for shoppers and downtown workers to purchase blueberries, raspberries and other in-season produce at the end of the day. To celebrate the start of the summer growing season, an opening celebration on Wednesday, May 31 will featuring kids’ activities, live music and a short ceremony with special guests.

The Pike Place MarketFront plaza, opening this spring, will allow Evening Market shoppers to enjoy the spectacular views of Puget Sound while enjoying artisan bites like gourmet tamales, from Market vendors. Families will enjoy new public artworks such as local artist Clare Dohna’s Northwest Microcosm, a mosaic wall, and the presence of Billie the Piggy Bank, Rachel the Piggy Bank’s cousin who trotted her way up Western Avenue to her new home in the MarketFront. 

In addition to the Evening Market at Pike Place, the Market brings weekly farmers markets to City Hall Plaza (Tuesdays), South Lake Union (Thursdays), First Hill (Fridays) and new this summer, The Regrade (Tuesdays) during the summer months. They are open on a weekly basis from Tuesday, May 30 through early fall, giving downtown shoppers the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, flower bouquets and value-added farm products such as honey, dried fruit, jam and more. 

All Pike Place Market farmers markets accept debit and credit cards, EBT, WIC and Senior FMNP. The markets, which operate under Washington State Farmers Market Association guidelines, also provide EBT matching through the City of Seattle’s Fresh Bucks program. Additionally, this summer, each market will pilot a WIC/Senior FMNP matching program, with sponsorship from the Newman’s Own Foundation and the Pike Place Market Foundation.
