I tried Daily Harvest’s Smoothie Subscription Service. Here’s what I thought.

Ready-made soups & smoothies packed w/ organic superfoods

Daily Harvest delivers pre-portioned, ready-to-blend smoothies, chia parfaits, overnight oats, and ready-to-heat soups to your freezer. They currently offer 17 flavor combinations that were co-created by a team of chefs and nutritionists. Everything on the menu comes packed with superfoods and organic fruits and vegetables with no added sugar or preservatives.

Each smoothie and soup is perfectly portioned, so all you have to do is take a cup out of the freezer, add your liquid of choice and toss it all into your blender or microwave. All produce is picked at peak nutrition and frozen on the farm, so it’s as fresh and nutritious as the farmers’ market.

I’ll admit I was skeptical. Another subscription service? Why would I need a service that does something I already do—make smoothies and soups—and am capable of doing? Use the code: THREEFREE on your first order to get your first three free (minimum order is 6). With this code, I paid $23 for 6—which is an incredible deal. Even at regular price, $47 for 6 is still affordable when you compare it to what you would pay at your local juice bar (I easily spend $10-$12 for one). Not only do you save time by being able to blend and go with no prep, it’s also convenient and a cheaper alternative.

Your order will arrive the following Thursday in a box with dry ice and shipping is always free.

HITS

My favorites are the Carrot + Chia and the Mint + Cacao smoothie. If you like carrot cake or cinnamon-spiced baked goods, the carrot + chia smoothie is for you. I have yet to try all the smoothies, but I’ll get there soon. I love the Coconut + Carrot curry soup is spicy and loaded with vegetables. It’s perfect to throw in the freezer at work on a day I didn’t have time to prep and pack lunch the night before.

MISSES

The Cold Brew + Almond sounded really good, but tasted a little watery and needed more sweetness. Maybe it’d be better if I blended it with a fattier milk like coconut milk? I also didn’t enjoy the Mushroom + Miso soup as the broth was overpoweringly sour and salty.

TAKEAWAYS

The website is aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate. From the dashboard, I can easily choose to skip a week (going out of town? Trying save some money this week?), modify (you can change your order as often as you’d like), or cancel altogether. I’m on my third order and I really enjoy it—ultimately it’s easy and a great back-up for when I’m busy but still want to make healthy choices. While I won’t be ordering weekly, I’ll probably get it at least once or twice a month.

I would definitely recommend trying Daily Harvest. Don’t forget to use the code: THREEFREE on your first order!
