When I heard local beauty gurus Herbivore Botanicals was releasing a new skincare product made with cannabis, I wasn’t surprised. That’s so Seattle. Many other beauty companies have been using CBD (Do yourself a favor and get a Kush Queen bath bomb – your welcome) to soothe aches and pains and enhance relaxation for some time, but I love supporting local and was excited to learn why Herbivore decided to dabble with cannabis.

Herbivore Co-Founders Julia Wills and Alex Kummerow have a deep personal connection with cannabis and have always hoped to someday incorporate it into skincare. Their journey with the plant began 3 years ago when Julia was diagnosed with cancer. She found that nothing helped ease her nausea, physical pain, or improve her state of mind like cannabis. She credits the plant to assisting her mind and body to be in an optimal state to make a full recovery from the disease. Happily, today Julia is cancer free!

After pouring a lot of love into the creation of the new Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Facial Oil, Herbivore is excited to release this highly hydrating facial oil that really does leave your skin feeling relaxed and slightly glowy. It’s made with cannabis sativa seed oil (also known as hemp oil) which is an Omega-rich, non-comedogenic oil that moisturizes the complexion and soothes visible redness and irritation without clogging pores. It’s also made with cannabis essential oil which is rich in natural terpenes—the organic chemical compounds that give each strain of cannabis its unique flavor and aroma—and helps calm the mind through holistic aromatherapy.

Emerald is also made with healing adaptogens like ashwagandha and turmeric root that help the skin cope with environmental stressors like pollution, UV rays, lack of sleep, and daily stress. It’s loaded with shiitake mushrooms that enrich Vitamin D to support healthy skin and prevent premature signs of aging. It also uses a trio of Squalane, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, and Borage Seed Oil that are ultra-hydrating and ensure your skin is high on glow and all-day moisture.

A little goes a long way with this awesome new product, and I’m happy to report I’ve added it to my nightly routine and it’s definitely helped breathe new life into my dehydrated winter skin. Stay tuned -Herbivore plans to expand their cannabis range to soaps and other skincare products in 2019. They’re working on a version of Emerald that will include CBD as we speak.
