Chef Scott Staples of Uneeda Burger has teamed up with Kiona Vineyards to launch the ‘Berger + Burger pairing. 

The Lemberger from Kiona Vineyards is a varietal that pairs perfectly with a burger. Joking that it has literally been in the name the whole time, the team at Kiona reached out to Chef Staples to get a professional’s opinion. He agreed—and the ‘Berger + Burger pairing was born.

The takeout special includes one bottle of Kiona’s Lemberger, a wine full of the big flavors for which Washington’s Red Mountain AVA is known, two Bison Burgers and two sides of seasonal Squash Tempura for $60.

“Lemberger pairs well with real people food, you don’t need to drink this with pinkies out. The big flavors and approachable price point make it the perfect burger pairing,” notes JJ Williams, General Manager at Kiona Vineyards. “While some may reminisce on the days of dining out with a Cabernet and filet, these days we’re all looking for something more approachable that can be enjoyed at home. “

Speaking of enjoying things at home, Chef Staples shared the recipe for the bison burger so that you can replicate it at home.

“We always want to find new and interesting ways to package at-home dining experiences, and while 2020 continues to bring challenges for so many, we want to bring our customers both levity and nourishment in this fun and approachable way,” said Uneeda Chef Scott Staples. “Kiona Vineyards’ Lemberger offers a perfect balance that stands up to the bison and the richness of the bacon and cheese and the sweet aspect of the caramelized red onions that have sherry vinegar and fresh thyme.”

I recently picked up the takeout special for us to enjoy at home, and it exceeded both of our expectations. The burger was juicy and tender, with caramelized onions and cheese escaping from the brioche bun. I loved how the Lemberger cut the richness of the burger, and the tempura squash was a perfect side pairing.

One dollar from every bottle of Lemberger sold through the end of 2020 will be donated to the NAACP.
