This month, Seattleite will feature a series of articles by Jon Meyer, our official Food + Travel Aficionado. Mr. Meyer recently completed a most excellent excursion throughout British Columbia, and has returned to the United States with tales of fine cuisine, outdoor adventure and charming encounters. Without further ado, here is the first installment of Jon’s Adventures in Canada.

The famous Italian eatery is hosting a festive birthday bash — and everyone’s invited.

What: The owner and staff members of Serafina — as well as sister restaurant, Cicchetti — would like Seattleites to come party with them on Sunday, May 29. The day-long extravaganza will be reminiscent of the colorful street festivals that are common throughout Italy, complete with live music, flowing wine and chefs grilling sausage on the patio.

Attention dairy lovers: the Seattle Cheese Festival is coming to town!

Lactose intolerant individuals, beware: the seventh annual Seattle Cheese Festival is hitting the avenues of Pike Place Market this weekend. More than 30 creameries will be on hand, presenting their unique flavors from end to end of the city’s most famous thoroughfare. Seattleite was lucky enough to score a sneak peek at Coach Farms, one of the festival’s delicious exhibitors.
